Helping the Homeless
In these cold winter nights in our region spare a thought for those without a home; sleeping rough, in a car or a friend’s couch.
This is the harsh reality for too many people in our Orange Regional Community. Homelessness doesn’t discriminate by age, sex or marital status; many families are living on the edge of homelessness, women escaping domestic violence, youth battling mental health, those struggling with addictions and others who simply ‘don’t fit in’.
This is where St Vincent de Paul steps in! Vinnies Community sleep outs is a community event where you can make a difference to these people’s lives. In the 2017/18 financial year Vinnies - Orange Regional Council Area has assisted over 1800 people, and have assisted them in over $500,000 worth of support including, Electricity Vouchers, Food Parcels & vouchers, Clothing, furniture, accommodation just to name a few.
We are asking you to be a part of the solution and join local businesses and community members during the month of August to raise funds by participating in our Central West Community Sleep Outs in Mudgee, Bathurst or Orange. There are a number of ways you can assist:
- become a sponsor for the fundraising efforts – included is a sponsorship prospectus. As a generous supporter, your business will be promoted as a major contributor in tackling homelessness in our region;
- hold little fundraising events at your workplace or community organisation to put towards your Sleepout sponsorship (e.g. morning tea, mufti day, nominate a % of sales etc.);
- you and/or staff members can register to Sleepout for Central West Sleepout on 31st August at James Sheahan High School, and generate donations from your colleagues, friends and family leading up to the event;
- donate to Central NSW Sleepout via our website www.centralwestsleepout.com.au (all donations over $2 are tax deductible and will be provided with a receipt).
