MONEY - Heed the warnings!

How often have we pondered the question "If only I'd…….." or "If I had my time over again, I'd……."?

Personally, I don’t think there's a lot to be gained by going down this track, "what's done is done", I say.

That said, one would be very foolish indeed if one didn't learn from one's own experience and pass on any lessons learned to others, particularly family and friends. That's exactly what I'd like to do now.

The subject is money, something I personally don't have an abundance of. Sure, I get by, but I'm at that stage of my life where I'd love to retire and live off my savings. Sadly, I stuffed any hope of that by not heeding the warnings about planning for the future all those years ago. Today it's too late for me, working on and on and on is my solution, unless I want to rely on the pension, something I'm trying to avoid at all costs. Not that there's anything wrong with the pension, it's just that I'm too stubborn to take that option until all other options have been completely exhausted. I believe in paying my own way and until all else fails, that's what I'm still hoping to do.

Enough about me, let's see if we can't at least prevent others from making the same silly and costly mistakes.

Like most things, with the right attitude, the right planning and the right commitment, we can generally achieve anything. It's dead easy to stop smoking, dead easy to lose weight, dead easy to give up gambling and so on….yeah right! Fact is, it really is PROVIDED you get your head right (attitude), your plan right and you stay committed to it.

It's the same with building wealth. It's not hard, but until you get your head right, have a sound plan to achieve it and then stay committed to the task, it won't happen. Throughout your life, you'll just fritter your money away on this and that, and like me, when the crunch comes, it's too late. Unfortunately, you might be able to get away with cramming with a lot of things, but not when it comes to money. Building wealth takes time, a lot of time, sometimes a lifetime but the rewards are there if you do, so is the pain and despair if you don't.

So, my sincere message to everyone who still has time to get their money plans in order is to heed the warnings and find out how it all can work. You'll will be utterly amazed at how so little put aside now can amount to so much over time.

I have a friend who knows a lot more about this subject than me and he's running a free workshop shortly for people who want to learn about creating wealth. His name is Daniel McGregor, his business is Wealth Train and if you've taken notice, you'll realise he writes a column for us each week on money matters.

If you're ready to heed the warnings, take time to read Daniel's columns each week or better still, get along to his free workshop in Orange on July 15th. You can find more details about that in this issue.

"Money isn't everything but it sure beats what's second." Humourous bumper sticker I saw once.
