Molong - Get ready for Christmas in style

Molong is well and truly getting into the Christmas spirit and are encouraging us to support our neighbours as they host a number of ‘Christmas Events’ to keep spirits high.

It’s with the dedication of Kerry Hicks and Tania Lampe, both on the tourism committee, that many different and fun events have been planned, to take place from November 29 through to December 24.

Kerry explained, “Because everything is so dusty and down at the moment, and after our ‘Pink week,’ it was just such an outstanding success, it just means that people are still giving, and it put a lot of brightness into the street.”

“Our idea was to include everybody in the events. It’s really just to create that Christmas spirit and keeping it local and supporting one another in the town.

Some of the Molong Christmas events include Christmas Carols, Santa Photos, Twilight Disc Golf, Men’s Shed Open Day and many stores are jumping on board with ‘Lucky Shopper.’ There’s something for the littlies with a kids’ craft workshop for the school holidays, a Salvation Army toy run, a market night and much, much more!

Kerry mentioned what she is excited to see is everyone’s ‘Christmassy’ windows as they get involved with ‘Best Dressed Commercial Window.’

“It lifts everybody’s spirit and its encouraging, it will make the main street really stand out.”

Another exciting thing for the town, and for many out West, will be from December 8-10, Sydney Realtor Di Jones will be completing a ‘Drought Drive’ and is bringing 35 cars full of people from Sydney, to assist our regional businesses affected by the drought. First stop Molong, through to Nyngan.

Kerry continued, “It’s so exciting, and it does help, all of those people will be spending money in the town to eat and sleep, and that will give every town they go to such a boost.”

For Molong locals, your best bet is picking up a copy of your local paper, Molong Express which will have a calendar of the events happening around town. For everyone else, you can head to the Molong Real Estate Facebook page where you can find what’s happening in the town.

“Support the rural towns who are doing it really tough. Come out and shop through the month of December, come out and see the lights, visit Molong and help these businesses stay alive.”
