U3A Celebrates 30 Years

We caught the celebrations at Orange City Bowling Club last week as University of the Third Age (U3A) Orange celebrated 30 years in the community.

Boasting an incredible 235 members, we can see why it has become so popular within the community, President Bev Holland explains, “It’s generally for people after they retire, to have a way to socialise and its ongoing learning as well to keep our brains active. There are many different groups and classes throughout the week keeping us busy, including excursions.”

The group offer everything from learning the recorder to cryptic crosswords and French Geology.

The celebration kicked off with members showcasing their talents playing the organ and ukulele and a sit-down lunch was enjoyed with the attendance of Mayor, Reg Kidd.

Bev continued, “As many of our groups meet in different places at different times, we don’t get a chance to bring everyone together often so this is lovely.”
