“We’re here, we’re trading… Consider going to the Bowlo.
The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on businesses all around Australia, but particularly those in the hospitality industry.
With ongoing restrictions on trade in place and a still uncertain future, Orange City Bowling Club’s Vice President Ian Spencer has asked the people of Orange to get out and support their local club and other businesses impacted in these difficult times.
“The Bowlo has been part of the Orange sporting and social landscape for over 120 years,” said Ian, who has himself been a member for 50 years and spent more than three decades on the board in various capacities.
“We are just a club of 120 years of proud heritage and we'd like to be around in another few years.”
Trying to return to some sort of normal after the lockdown period, Ian is asking that anyone thinking of heading out for a drink, a meal, a flutter on the pokies or ponies to consider going to the Bowlo.
“We’re not asking for a handout, just a hand up,” said Ian. “We just want to make people aware that we are still here, we are still trading, we offer everything that the larger clubs and pubs offer and we are ready to receive you within COVID-19 guidelines.”
And the club is certainly not alone in this situation, he said.
“There are that many businesses in town, restaurants that would be doing it so so tough! And if this lockdown thing goes again there are so many of them that won't come back at all, or if they do come back it will be in a reduced capacity and it will cost jobs —that's what we’re trying to avoid.
“So please give us a thought. If you have let your membership lapse for any reason, consider re-joining, or if you’ve never been a member join now – it’s only $10 for a social membership.
“Every community should have a bowling club and with your support we’ll be around making more memories for another 120 years.”
