Charlotte Felice, 19, believes we all have the power to make positive change in our communities.
The former James Sheahan student, now studying biochemistry at the Australian National University in Canberra, is one of 20 young people driving a $100,000 fundraising initiative to help break down the barriers to sports participation faced by many young Australians.
Movement for Change will see Charlotte and the other 19 co-founders aim to run, walk, row, swim and cycle a collective total of 10,000 kilometres to raise money for three Australian charities that are breaking down barriers in sport for disadvantaged youth.
"So, our campaign is prominently youth-focused. We're aiming to support, in particular, disadvantaged young Australians… So over the course of six months, we'll raise funds to support three charities: the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, the Sport Access Foundation, and the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation," Charlotte said.
The idea for Movement for Change grew out of the Australian Olympic Change Maker Summit, Charlotte explained.
The 2025 Summit brought together a small, select group of high school students who've used sport to create meaningful change in their own school or local communities.
In Charlotte's case, being a passionate and talented soccer player, she was instrumental in advocating for the creation of a girls' team at her school and creating opportunities for girls to continue to develop in the sport.
One of just 25 students nationwide selected to take part in the Summit, Charlotte and the other Change Makers felt they could use that opportunity to make a difference for other young athletes.
"Even though that was a three-day summit, we've all come back from that and thought, actually, we can continue to do something and not just have this one-off opportunity, but create another opportunity," she said.
"So, over the next six months, our cohort is stepping up to complete a collective minimum of 10,000 kilometres to raise funds and awareness for disadvantaged youth in sport."
While Charlotte gets plenty of kilometres up at her regular soccer training sessions, she is adding extra walks and games to ensure they hit their target.
But to raise the $100,000, they will need the community's help, she said. If you would like to donate to their cause, you can do so via the Movement for Change GoFundMe page.
