Orange Physiotherapy & Wellness is a new local physiotherapy practice located within the Orange City Bowling Club Health and Fitness Centre. OC Life spoke with practice owner and physiotherapist Leanne Godson about her 25-year journey working across health and wellness, and what inspired her to establish a practice focused on personalised, practical and supportive care for the Orange community.

How did you come to have a career in health?

I was born in Orange and began my working life at the old Orange hospital in administration. I’ve always had a strong interest in health, nutrition and wellbeing, which led me to initially train and work in the nutrition and wellness field.

My husband’s work took our family to Brisbane for several years, and when we returned to Orange I decided to build on that health background and study physiotherapy.

Since qualifying in 2020, I’ve worked across a number of settings, including the Wellness House in Orange and a local service supporting families with disability and developmental delays.

What drew you to physiotherapy as a profession?

What really drew me to physiotherapy was how practical and hands-on it is. You’re working alongside people to help them move better, recover from injury, build strength and feel more confident being active.

I also really value being part of a person’s broader healthcare journey. It’s a privilege to have someone place their trust in you and allow you to help them work towards something that matters to them – whether that is returning to work or sport, reducing pain, maintaining their independence or simply feeling more confident in their body.

I genuinely love that part of physiotherapy.

What services do you provide at Orange Physiotherapy & Wellness?

I would describe Orange Physiotherapy & Wellness as a general physiotherapy practice with a strong focus on individualised, whole-person care.

I see people with the everyday conditions you would expect in a physiotherapy clinic – back and neck pain, joint and muscle problems, acute injuries, persistent pain, sporting and gym-related injuries – but I also have a particular interest in neurological conditions, disability, mobility and healthy ageing.

That variety is something I really enjoy. On any given week I might be supporting someone with cerebral palsy, or an older person to improve their strength, balance and mobility so they can remain independent at home, helping a tradie manage a sore back, supporting a busy parent who has been putting their own health on the back burner, or helping someone with knee pain get back to walking, gardening, the gym or sport.

My goal is to understand the person as a whole, what is important to them and what they would like to get back to doing.

What made you want to take the leap and set up your own physio clinic?

I wanted to create a clinic where people feel listened to, supported and receive care that is tailored to their needs, goals and overall wellbeing.

For me, good physiotherapy is about building on a person’s strengths, providing practical strategies and helping them develop the confidence and capacity to return to, or keep doing the things that are meaningful to them.
