Millions of passengers arriving at Sydney Airport will soon pay a flat $60 taxi fare to the CBD under a 12-month trial aimed at stamping out overcharging and fare disputes.

The State Government announced the fixed fare will start on Monday, November 3, following a recommendation from the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). The NSW taxi industry and Sydney Airport support the move.

The NSW Point to Point Transport Commissioner has received repeated complaints of drivers refusing to use meters or adding unexpected charges, with some visitors charged more than $150 for the 13-kilometre trip. Since the Taxi Fare Hotline was introduced in November 2022, more than 1100 fines have been issued to drivers.

Road tolls and airport access fees will not be added to the fixed fare. The trial will be assessed after a year to decide if it becomes permanent.
