A captivating photograph of young drovers on an iconic stock route has earned photographer Carly Earl this year's prestigious Australian Life photography competition and a $10,000 cash prize.

The winning image, titled "Riley Swanson on the Roma Southern Road", was selected from a diverse field of 30 amateur and professional finalists. Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore AO announced the winner at the Australian Life exhibition opening at Customs House on Thursday night.

Judges praised Ms Earl’s photograph for beautifully highlighting a lesser-known aspect of Australian rural life.

In the teenage category, open to entrants aged 13 to 17, Callum Poling won first place with "February Boat Carnival", securing $2000 and a professional OM System photography pack valued at approximately $2500.

Little Sydney Lives, aimed at younger photographers aged 5 to 12, was won by Chloe Wiseman for her creative double-exposure photograph of her mother titles "Home-made Mummy Double-Exposure". Runner-up Zoe Morris impressed with her humorous depiction of family dynamics in "Sibling Love".

The exhibitions continue at Customs House Square and Customs House Library until Sunday, August 24.
