Donations needed for Central West Animal Rescue

Central West Animal Rescue Orange Branch (CWAR) need our help during their busiest time of year, the Christmas period.

With 62 animals already in foster care, President of the CWAR Orange Branch, Jasmine Smart explained, “We owe $5,000 in vet bills, and are looking at another $16,000 on top of that with the foster kids [animals] that we already have.”

In the hope to ease the financial burden, CWAR have five different fundraising activities kicking off from this weekend, in the lead up to Christmas.

From each event, all proceeds will go towards the CWAR foster animals vet work and overheads including food, bedding, flea/worming etc.

“We are as strong as the community that holds us up. We make no money in rescue; we rely on community donations.  When the community get behind us it gives us some breathing space, and we can focus on the animals, rescue is constantly reactive, you are living day by day.

“It’s also becoming popular for people buy a puppy for Christmas, we encourage them to really understand that it is a life commitment, don’t just buy one because they are cute, seriously think about purchasing a puppy for life. Also be aware of your pets during the holidays, you’ve got to keep a calm environment with Fireworks and certain noises around during the Christmas/New Year period.”

Jasmine mentioned they are always looking for business sponsors and volunteers to help out at their charity events, if this sound like you, please get in touch!

It’s evident when chatting to Jasmine that she puts her heart and soul into this organisation, and the same could be said for all of the foster carers involved in lightening her workload.

“We have some of the greatest foster carers, and it’s bittersweet for them, when our animals leave us to find their forever home, you really do miss them a lot.

I still have people coming to me updating me on foster animals that were back when we started in 2017. It’s really cool, and it’s an amazing feeling. You see the transformation too, a lot of the dogs we get are anxious, they are very sick (we’ve had a lot of sick dogs), and to see them, how they have grown and are confident when they go to their families, it’s pretty awesome.”

The CWAR team always looking for new members with varying roles such as dog and cat foster carers, fundraiser, administration, social media and many more!
