Great Poem of Addiction

Author, Guy Hannaford has spent this past year working hard towards a goal he’s held himself accountable for, for many years. Immersing himself in his poetry work, his work will finally come to fruition and will be available to purchase within the next month or so.

“I’ve been wanting to write a book for ages and I’ve always written poetry,” said Guy.

After just 10 days on the Kickstarter platform, Guy hit his target funding.

“It made me really nervous,” Guy laughed, “I’m nervous because it’s my soul, and I’m putting it out there. People who know me well will go, ‘Oh yep, that’s him,’ people who don’t will think, ‘Oh.. I didn’t know he had that side to him.’

“But I was really thrilled to have got the project off the ground because it’s an all or nothing process.”

The central theme of the 80 page book is about addiction; living with it and overcoming it.

“I don’t know why I chose addiction; it just happened that way,” said Guy, “But there’s something in there for everyone. I knew with the book I wanted something people could physically hold, I love print, I’m a bit old fashioned like that.. I like the format and I still buy books all of the time, print is a beautiful thing.”

The cover of the book was designed and illustrated by local, Hugh McKinnon.

“He’s an awesome Artist. That was also a catalyst, I saw a poster he had made around town and I nicked it,” Guy laughed. “I found out he was a local, so I got in contact, I told him about my book idea and he came up with the most amazing drawing, I couldn’t fault it.

“It has the comic book, colourful yet controversial style I love. His style is great, he just captured what I was trying to say, through the book.

“I wanted something people would see and say ‘Oh.. what is that,’ you’ll see it and think that’s not for me or the opposite, and that’s what it is.”

“I’m overwhelmed by the support and generosity. I’m so grateful for those people backing this crazy dream of mine.”
