Dealing with progress

Operating a small business is challenging at the best of times, but sometimes, that’s made even harder through circumstances that are out of a business owner’s control.

Spare a thought therefore, for Matt O’Malley from Thomson’s Garden Centre, he and others in McLachlan Street has a huge situation to contend with over the next few months, access to their businesses has been greatly reduced because of a new roundabout being constructed at the intersection of March and McLachlan Streets. What this means is that access to that end of McLachlan Street is only available from Dalton Street. That may not sound too much of a problem, but anything that makes accessing a business more difficult, or adds a measure or inconvenience to the shopping experience, or interferes with a customer’s expectations, will always impact on a business negatively. In Matt’s case, there’s not much he can do about the road situation, other than hope customers will take the inconvenience in their stride and know that if he could do something about it, he would.

20% OFF Sale

What he can do however, is make it even more worthwhile to visit Thomson’s Garden Centre, especially during this time of disruption, and that’s exactly what he has done with a big 20% off sale. Check their ad on the back page of this issue of OC Life, see where the savings are, and then get along to pick up a bargain or two.

Thomson’s is a brilliant Orange business and it’s probably fair to say that most homes in Orange would likely have something from Thomson’s in their garden somewhere, be it a pot, a plant, a statue, some garden furniture or something else. Few other Orange businesses could claim that, I’m sure.
