Volunteer Wayfinders at the Orange Health Service hospital have recently recommenced duty as of January 11.

After some nine months in hibernation due to the COVID-19 and with the establishment of new health and safety procedures, the Wayfinders have been given approval to return.

Orange Hospital Wayfinder, Gary Scovell mentioned this will be the volunteer groups 10th year providing their service. Gary explained, “We provide a meet, greet and chaperone service to all visitors and staff at the hospital at the same time practising social distancing and disinfecting procedures.

“In saying that the pandemic has resulted in the Wayfinders losing quite a few of their members for various reasons, so, we are encouraging community members to come and join our Wayfinding community. All ages are welcome, and a current flu vaccination is mandatory,” Gary said.

Bev Kerr has been with the volunteer Wayfinder group since the very beginning, “I had retired, and I was looking for something to fill in my week which is when I heard about the Wayfinders. I love meeting the people that come through the hospital and being able to help them. Most people seem very appreciative of our help, particularly people from out of town,” said Bev.

Wayfinding services will be provided 7 days per week. You can find them to the left, inside of the front entrance of the hospital sporting their bright red vests and an eager smile (behind the mask) to help you get to where you are supposed to be.
