Remember those play mats with an entire suburban town designed on them? Roads, fire stations, car parks and everything, I do believe they are called ‘Road Rugs.’ You can’t tell me you didn’t grab the nearest toy vehicle and drive along the road lines at the perfect speed, with the perfect temperament... not to ever over analyse your three point turns..

Anyway, off topic.

The old Moulder Park netball courts were given a facelift, and by facelift, I’m talking, completely transformed, it’s a real life-sized Road Rug!

Orange City Council staff members have turned two netball courts into an awesome new bike track, complete with two lanes and one-way tracks, a roundabout, rough surface and pedestrian crossing, a give-way and stop signs as well.

The course is set to offer a fun, safe area for children to learn to ride their bikes, in saying that it is also a great way for them to learn important road rules.

The track was painted in December last year and the replica traffic signs were installed along the track this month.

It's said that new seating will provide a space for parents to sit and watch as their children enjoy riding their bikes.

Orange Mayor, Reg Kidd said it was a great way to revive the space, which sat largely unused since the netball courts were opened at Orange PCYC in 2009.

“This area has been a popular spot for parents to take their children to learn to ride their bikes over the past few years, so I’m pleased there is now a formal, learn to ride area.

Its proximity to the nearby velodrome and skate park also adds another element to the area, creating a unique recreational precinct for the enjoyment of bikes, skateboards and scooters.”

Council are looking at ways to improve the site with features such as landscaping and potentially expanding the facility in the future… watch this space!
