An International Women’s Day (IWD) long lunch was held earlier in the week as an opportunity for women in business to connect and inspire.

Both Nicole Farrell and Michelle Slack- Smith connected through Instagram when Michelle moved from Sydney in January, their initial connection shared as both ladies were in the Travel and Tourism Industry.

Nicole explained, “Michelle and I had coffee together and I mentioned I wanted to do something for IWD, so, we pulled it together, rallying local women in business and creating an inclusive atmosphere for all.”

“For me, the event was about connection. I run my business alone and I know a lot of these ladies also run their business solo or work from home so it was a chance to collaborate and socialise. Most people didn’t know each other before the event and I hadn’t met half of the women before then either, so for those who came not knowing anyone and still being comfortable to mingle I think is very important. We’ve had great feedback on the event.”

Over $2,000 was raised with the funds split to support local charity, FoodCare and International charity, Fiji Women’s Ag Micro Business.

Michelle added, “From my perspective it was a brilliant day for me to just get to know others. It was really inspiring for me to see how many women are running their own business and how their businesses are thriving. It’s not just a side gig, these are serious businesses, and it was a very broad spectrum of women. It was very inspiring, it was a great group of women and I feel very privileged to have been the host, they were all so gracious.
