Timing is everything for Canobolas Rural Technology High School’s Tyler Dent.

A student, a leader and a performer who also juggles part-time work with her studies, Tyler admits getting all of the aspects of a busy life, to fit into place takes some fancy footwork.

“At times it can be a bit overwhelming, but I like to keep busy,” Tyler explained, “It’s what I’ve done all my life.”
As a passion for dance is at the forefront of Tyler’s schedule, she will be a feature dancer in the upcoming Orange Theatre Company’s production of Beauty and the Beast, while it’s also a major component in her Higher School studies.

This led to taking part in an Academy of Music and Performing Arts masterclass for HSC dance students, where she gained tuition from AMPA’s experts, including HSC dance marker Angelique Mavromatis.

Tyler was one of only two central west girls in attendance, and she said it had given her a clearer picture as to where she needs improvement before final her assessments.

“I know I can do the practical side, it’s the theory side I need to do more work on, what muscles do what, that sort of stuff,” said Tyler.

Apart from dance, which she also teaches through Central West Performing Arts (CWPA), Tyler has developed a love of education and is moving towards a career in that field.

She unearthed that passion through her involvement in Canobolas’ Big Picture program and has fostered it by working with CWPA’s 4 years and under group, among others.

“They are my pride and joy,” she said. “Whenever I teach them it makes me so happy.”

It’s through Big Picture, Tyler is now working two days a week as an intern at Courallie Early Learning Centre and she hopes to secure Certificate 3, enabling her to secure employment.

“I know what I want to do and I know what I have to do to get there.”

In the meantime, Tyler will continue to juggle her day to day as well as her role as vice-captain of the school’s SRC and a part-time job at Spotlight. Talk about busy!

While she’s a young lady moving in her own direction, Tyler said she couldn’t have started on her path without her biggest support, mum Armarlie, “She’s my biggest fan,” she smiled.
