From April 26, much loved local Col ‘Barnesy’ Barnes will conquer a cycling trek travelling from Orange to Eugowra.

Barnsey’s efforts will see much needed funds and awareness raised for Lifeline Central West, our local branch.

“I approached Lifeline about a month ago, due to the number of suicides within our community,” said Col. “Lifeline Central West are virtually self-funded out here, so they do need the funds badly.”

Barneys ride will be six days in total, from Monday through to Saturday.

“I can’t walk far anymore,” Col laughed. “So, I’ve been out training (cycling) for the past month or so, I’m getting a bit serious now, but I can just take my time on the bike. I think google maps says from Orange to Molong it will take around 1 hour 33 minutes by bike.. well it may take me four to five hours.

“I’ve organised accommodation and meals, as generous people will be putting me up for the night.”

Special events will be organised as Col makes tracks, so keep an eye on his Facebook page. At this stage Goolagong will be hosting a night at the pub with the ‘The River Rats’ playing for the community. A great night to be had by all.

Barnsey added, “I’m going to love this trek, getting out into nature with the birds and surroundings whilst raising money for something that’s really worthwhile.”

Lifeline Central West covers 1/3 of regional/rural NSW, they not only provide telephone crisis support, problem gambling help counselling and financial counselling through their Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo offices, they also provide face to face counselling services to help those who are struggling and/ or their families and work colleagues.

As Barnsey gets set to ride out, he is still seeking corporate sponsorship. If you’d like to support Col through his journey, please contact on him on 0448 139 537.
