Locked down by our COVID-19 restrictions for travel, restaurants and luxury items, Colour City locals have been turning to bricks and mortar, gardens and outdoor features.

Pigot’s Midwestern Sand and Soil and Midwestern Mini-Mix Concrete couldn’t be busier.

“I’m flat-out, we’ve been very, very busy, but not just the concreting, the sand and soil as well has been going great guns,” Frazer Pigot said.

“So, we’ve now got a landscape side and a concrete side... we’re really starting to get into the gardening side with topsoils, composts and garden mixes, whatever you need for your place.

“It’s something that we have got into over the past two years and are really keen to promote now.”

Products range from a variety of sands, beach, tillers, plasterers, brickies, and fine and coarse sands, as well as mulchers, top-soils, turf, garden mixes, blue metal, granite, road-base, river pebbles, and concrete sleepers and blocks.

Other garden products include playground mixes and bark blends, turf underlay and top-dresses, and concrete pavers.

“We’ve got a whole yard of this stuff, we do much more than just concrete and we’re happy to help,” Frazer said.

With three, four, and seven-tonne trucks, they can cover most contingencies for the home gardener or renovator, and you don’t need to pick the stuff up yourself, he added.

“If you haven’t got your own trailer, that’s no problem, rather than come up and get it, we deliver anywhere in Orange for a flat $10 fee, in fact that’s what most people prefer,” he added.

The pandemic lockdowns, he said, had seen people taking a good, hard look at their houses and gardens, and deciding to invest some time and money close to home.

“We’ve been pushing hard like crazy since both COVID and spring and, with most of our sands and soils from near Sydney, we offer a different variety of products,” Frazer said.

“People have just decided to do up their own places, everyone is into this do-it-yourself spirit, which is fine by us, we’re here to help.”
