Rock Show Oz Edition showcasing classic Aussie rock from the 60s, 70s and 80s

Come and enjoy two-and-a-half-hours of the best Aussie rock hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s as the Rock Show OZ edition hits the Orange Civic Theatre stage on 5 February.

Rock Show Oz Edition is the final in a long series of rock shows produced by late Aussie Rock Icon, Jon English, and his long-term partner Coralea Cameron.

The original Rock Show first went on tour in 2009, and was followed by Rock Show More, Rock Show Revolution and the Trilogy of Rock, which was booked for the Orange Civic Theatre in 2016, but sadly Jon English passed away in the weeks prior to the sold out event.

Six years on and Coralea is particularly happy to be able to finally bring the show to Orange.

“Jon was very much a ‘the show must go on’ type of person — he hated to cancel a show for any reason. I like to think that he’d be pretty happy we are doing this in his memory to keep his legacy alive for his fans,” said Coralea.

Like previous Rock Shows, the current rendition is a celebration of the classic hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s, but focusing on our home-grown rock legends like Masters Apprentices, Billy Thorpe, Bee Gees, Skyhooks, Aussie Crawl, INXS, Angels, Cold Chisel, Air Supply, Divinyls, Russell Morris, Noiseworks, Stevie Wright, AC/DC, Peter Allen, Choirboys, Black Sorrows, Oils, and of course, Jon English.

The Trilogy of Rock band, which was Jon’s last band, have reunited for the show, with Steve Mulry from the Ted Mulry Gang stepping up to fill in for English.

“One of the reasons it’s taken this long, apart from me taking a long time to get my mojo back, was finding the right person, because Jon had very big boots to fill,” said Coralea, who knew she had found the right person after seeing Steve Mulry on stage.

“I’d been friends with Steve for a while, but I hadn’t really seen him perform and I saw him and said, ‘I think I’ve found my replacement!’ And that was the time I decided to pick the show back up again.”

“The wonderful thing about Steve is that he is very much like Jon. He is a Western Sydney boy like Jon was, he is very humble and down to earth like Jon and he doesn’t mind sharing the stage with all the other artists.”

Rehearsals for the Rock Show Oz Edition began in January 2020, but of course COVID has made touring difficult.

“We managed to tour for the first six months of last year. Now Orange is going to be our first show back in 2022! We managed to cram in about a dozen shows, but every show has sold out and we’ve had standing ovations and it means a lot to me to be seeing this through for Jon,” said Coralea,

“I wanted to take this show back to Orange to give people a chance to… I guess pay their last respects to Jon. We do the medley that Jon always did and we sort of pepper the show with different references to Jon.

“We are really looking forward to coming to Orange! It has been such a tough couple of years for the industry and I can guarantee that everybody who goes will have an amazing time!”
