Ruby Chapman - People of O-Town

“I am 10 years old and I go to St Marys Primary School. I really like dancing and doing gymnastics, as well as drawing and painting. I am donating my hair on March 29, to the Variety Charity - Hair with Heart. It was a thing that popped into my head as one of my friends was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago.

I started thinking about it for weeks and I really wanted to do it, I was also inspired by a lot of people that I know who have done the same.

On the day I will be donating 38 cm of my hair, that’s pretty scary as I’ve only ever had a trim, I’ve been growing my hair since I was three years old. I know it’s going to people who need it and my hair will grow back so I am feeling happy that I can help them.

It costs around $5,000- $6,000 every year for families to buy a wig and it lasts about 1-2 years, I think that is a lot of money and it’s not only for kids with cancer it can be other illnesses as well.

I have raised nearly $700, I think it’s amazing to be honest, my goal is to raise $5,000. I’m really proud of myself because I didn’t think I would make a decision like that in my life.”
